Kitchen islands are extremely popular, but sometimes a peninsula is the right option for a layout. Like an island, a peninsula adds countertop space for meal prep, gives kids a spot to enjoy a snack and provides additional storage with lower cabinets or drawers. That said, some homeowners prefer the elbow room in a kitchen that has a peninsula, as opposed to the narrowed pathways that can result in one with an island.
